Słowo Boże w liturgii eucharystycznej Kościołów syryjskich

2017

In all liturgical families, including the Syriac ones, the proclamation of the Word of God is an essential element of liturgical celebration. Although in the numerous communities sharing the same tradition of Antioch, Edessa and Nisibis the practice of reading from the Bible during the liturgy looks different there are some common elements. They include: a great respect for the Bible (the book seen as a monstrance), the readings taking place during the Liturgy of Catechumens; the division of readings from both the Old and New Testament into the psalmodic chants, the practice of reading the Gospel which is reserved strictly for the priest, the presence of the biblical poetry during the whole…

“A Miracle of Architecture”: The Billiemi limestone Columns of the Church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini in Palermo and Domenico Fontana’s Method for Li…

2014

The Eucharist or the Lord's Supper in the light of the Catholic-Pentecostal dialogue (1972-2015)

2019

The ongoing Catholic-Pentecostal dialogue highlighted a certain disproportion in the approach of each of the parties to the Eucharist or the Lord's Supper. For Pentecost Christians participation in the Lord's Supper is of secondary importance. Common conversations been shown that in Catholic spirituality the Eucharist occupies a significant and central place. It is the presence of the sacrifice that took place once and for all on the cross of Christ. Pentecostals are not unanimous, however, in the meaning of the Lord's Supper. For this community usually the Lord's Supper means only commemoration of Last Supper. They do not believe, however, that during it the bread and wine will transform t…

Giacomo Serpotta tra sacro e profano

2022

We shall be taking an innovative and original approach in our examination of the insuperable figure of Giacomo Serpotta, an outstanding Sicilian stucco sculptor of the 18th century. The complete artistic output of Giacomo Serpotta is traced, oscillating between the sacred and the profane in the sculptural adornment of many churches and oratories. Here, Giacomo Serpotta shifts from the Baroque to Rococo, originating a sculptural art that is profoundly innovative in its language and symbology. Formal reading and chromatic-spatial games are intertwined with the symbolic in the light of significant essays by Carl Gustav Jung, Martin Heidegger and Carlo Giulio Argan

Belief in God, Confidence in the Church and Secularization in Scandinavia

2021

We used the three latest rounds of the religion module of International Social Survey Programme to study secularization in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, focusing on belief in God. We restricted our sample to the affiliated with the majority Protestant churches and the unaffiliated and analyzed the trends toward disaffiliation and disbelief in God. Then, we studied the association between confidence in churches, religious/secular upbringing, and demographic controls with belief in God using multinomial logistic regression models. Our treatment of belief in God as a nominal variable allowed the inclusion of both the element of doubt and different images of God in the analyses. The trends towar…

2011

Different kinds of antique material were re-used in the Limousin region during the middle ages. In this article the authors will mostly focus on the big ashlars located in the ecclesiastical rural sites. More and more of these specific kinds of spolia are now known. Around 50 sites are identified where they were used in churches or in their surroundings (mostly sarcophagi). In most examples only few pieces were used. Nonetheless, in seven cases those blocks are numerous, and in three of them parts of antique buildings - using monumental ashlars - are incorporated into churches. It is highly probable that the spoiled monuments were mausolea. At least two of them were re-used for a Christian …

Święcenia prezbiteratu w Kościołach syryjskich. Historia i struktura obrzędu

2018
